BEHIND YOUNG. INVESTING. BLACK.
The title of this quarter’s Investor Update theme, Young. Investing. Black., is adapted from Nina Simone’s original song, To Be Young, Gifted and Black. The song was written in dedication to her friend, playwright Lorraine Hansberry, who wrote A Raisin in the Sun. To Be Young, Gifted and Black (1969) is also the title of an essay by Hansberry, published posthumously.
Below, we highlight an archival video of Nina Simone, where she discusses the song
and performs it live at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in June 1969.
